3. After reading the words of praise offered by the crowd, examine carefully their meaning. Just what were these people saying to Jesus and about him?

Does Hosanna mean Save us?
to restore the kingdom of Israel from the Romans, like it was at the time of David.
Acknowledged that he comes from God. Interesting because others are saying that he doesn't come from God Ie Teachers of the law.

It's interesting that their praise of Jesus was the opposite of what the Jewish leaders would give Jesus.
And, like you note - it's interesting that what they say is perfect, but what they seem to have been thinking was far from correct.
Can you think of any other examples of times people say the right thing, but have the wrong idea in mind?

They were acknowledging Jesus as a Savior, even the promised Messiah, but were still perceiving an earthly kingdom with political power and military/political victory rather than victory over sin, death, and Satan and a heavenly kingdom. Another example might be the title Jehovah's Witnesses. Sounds good, right, witnessing/telling others about God! Yet they don't have the right idea about who God is, three persons in one, and in particular they don't have the right idea about Jesus. Muslims say the right thing -- that there is one God -- but the god of whom they speak and in whom they believe is not the one true God.
